About Me

Ever since I was a kid, I've always been fascinated with fictional media.  I play games, watch TV, and read manga, like most internet dwellers.  But there has always been one type that has always struck my fancy: Shonen.  I watch a lot of shonen anime, play a lot of shonen games, watch shonen anime based on games and games based on shonen.

Shonen is a word I use differently from most people.  While the technical definition of shonen refers to the demographic, it's a word I use to describe the type of media that heavily uses shonen media's usual trappings or are directly influenced by shonen series.  This can be a traditional anime or manga like Fist of the North Star and Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, or a game like the Asura's Wrath or Sengoku Basara.

I'm a journalism graduate and freelance writer with a particular fondness toward writing about things like these for about 7 years now.  I decided to put my writing and knowledge out on display and share my love of games and anime with this little blog.  I always love good writing and fun games, but I like to tell people about them even more.  I hope you find the Shonen Otaku Corner both informative and entertaining.

I greatly appreciate and encourage any comments and criticism.  If you would like to contact me with any questions or you would like to see my resume, please e-mail me at shonenotaku1@gmail.com.

  1. I don’t like your writing, it feels trashy, very childlike responses in general and I see that you have no kind of consistency or understanding from the basis of your own social media account. You constantly say rude words to others who doesn’t see your own viewpoint, and you write about nonsense trivial stupid shit that just doesn’t work in this kind of diverse industry. The things that you write about which “Shonen Games” are as you may call it are practically called fighting or adventure or action games. Also please do not use “Otaku” in your namesake, Japanese people get made fun of day after day and constantly bullied by poor examples of an anime fan such as yourself. You are the problem that makes me actually believe that cultural appropriation is real, you have no respect for others it’s showing tremendously on your work. I recommend you actually find yourself a real career choice, because this isn’t working out for you.

    1. I appreciate the criticism. I just wish I could chat with you somewhere to go over it in more detail with specific examples. I stand by my name though. I don't mean "otaku" in any derogatory term, nor do most other people that use it and some of the sillier aspects of being an anime fan are meant to be ironic, but I get Poe's Law can apply and it might not come off that way. And I call them shonen games because a lot of them are the kind of games that are greatly inspired by shonen or uses many of its conventions. Those are the games I often really get into.
If you can leave some comments in specific articles that point out particular instances of nonsense and especially having no respect for others. I don't mean to be disrespectful.... Except to racists, pedophiles and the like, obviously.

  2. Are you by any chance the same bryanoftoons that used to defend the 4kids version of One Piece over at tv.com?

    1. That was like a decade ago, but yes I did used to go to TV.com. Are you someone I knew there? If you remember the user named Matt I was able to get back in contact with him.

    2. Not really, but I asked you for a different reason. There is a madman on youtube that's been stalking videos about 4kids, and harassing people that give even the slightest criticism of the company with unwanted death threats, sexual harassment, and overall nasty comments. As someone that likes 4kids, I was wondering if you would care to help call this guy out for his actions? He's been at it for 5 years now, and has refused to admit any wrongdoing. If you're not willing to get involved I understand, but if you do it would strike a massive blow to him to be called out by someone that agrees with him!

    3. Yikes. Well the thing is that anything I say, whether I'm a fan or not, is a given. No matter what you like, being a rude asshole, harassing and ESPECIALLY death threats are something NO ONE SHOULD EVER DO! I can get coming off as rude unintentionally and even rebutting inaccurate claims (which let's be honest, there are a lot with 4Kids haters), but how in the hell does all that other nasty stuff help?
Seems to me like he has the mentality of GG harassers, in a sense. I'm sure you've done it already, but keep reporting, keep blocking. I appreciate you telling me so I can be on the lookout, but I never posted on Youtube comments since they forced Google Plus on it so I probably won't see it there.

I wonder how old this guy has to be. He has to be old enough to know 4Kids back in its bigger days, but he's so immature I can only assume he's young, especially after 5 years of this.

    4. You can find him on the videos "4kids is 4idiots" and "is 4kids really that bad?" if you look for newest comments he's often on every couple of days. He has actually done a lot of other terrible things including (but not limited to) harassing a then 14 year old cancer survivor by mocking him for it, finding out the real identities of the youtubers and then harassing them on other social media like facebook (and if he can get said info, also harass anyone that's friends or family to that person), and countless other nasty things. I and many others have tried telling him that his actions are more harmful than good, but he refuses to listen. The google plus thing on youtube is no longer a problem, you can actually comment on youtube without problem at this point. As for how old he is, I know for a fact that he is 23 years old. If you decide to check it out, look up Tammy Newborn.

    5. So he's an asshole then. I don't think there's much reasoning with someone who's an asshole. And is there really a way to comment on Youtube because every time I try it tells me to use a Google Plus account.

    6. Yeah you don't need to use Google Plus, in truth all you have to do is have Google Plus set up (it's free) and then you can use your normal youtube to comment. Go on ahead and give it a try. As for reasoning with the guy, I know that nothing will get through to him, but I also like to have people that like 4kids call him out to let him know that even those that share his views don't approve. But if you'd rather not get involved I understand.

    8. I might get involved at a later date.
And I don't WANT to make a Google Plus account.

    9. No one ever does want to make a google plus account, it's pretty useless, lol.
