TV Edits of the Viewtiful Joe Anime: Episode 6

In this episode, Joe and Junior get Machine 6/6 Machine from the old farmer Cyrus Brown (first name is mentioned in a later episode, second is in Red Hot Rumble).  This is just in time, as Charles the Third aims to take advantage of Joe's flying ability with an aerial assault.

So there's no bars?  No?  No guns?  What about bombs?  They're colored green?  They don't even explode?  Ok.  Phew.

The first thing changed for the English version is cutting some transphobic humor.  In the Japanese version, after the Biankies fly away with their propellers noticeably close to their butts (but not close enough for the English version to have to change it), Joe asks some inane questions about Machine Six before seeing someone walk by who looks like Silvia from behind.  He's elated, but the person turns around and they have a very masculine face.  They then proceed to knock Joe flat and storm off angrily.

Yikes.  Do I need to point out why that was cut?  I mean the person wasn't portrayed as anything more than a bystander who perhaps rightfully retaliated at Joe practically jumping at them, but the joke is their masculine face being a direct opposite to Silvia's pretty, feminine one, making their appearance itself the joke.  I think it's supposed to be a setup for a call back to this scene later in the episode where some of the exact same shots are used, but the visage the second time is funny enough on its own without being an insult to trans people or cross dressers and losing this bit doesn't affect the plot in the slightest.

When Sprocket and the Jadow trio are looking at footage of Joe fighting, there's a panning shot of all of them viewing it and arguing.  The English version didn't want to edit Sprocket for a panning shot so instead they use some close-up shots of them talking from an earlier episode to get the same point across and use the first shot of the panning shot to have Charles and Hulk talk without having to move the image, where Sprocket is censored.

Finally, in the Japanese version, after Joe wins with Machine 6, he jumps out and does his pose in victory as Silvia also jumps in victory for having finished cleaning her room, to which the Biankies helping her look on in pride. Silvia's victory cheer was cut because they decided that Joe's final pose was a good place to cut to commercial before coming back to wrap up and I think they were right.  Silvia's irrelevant room cleaning isn't exactly a driving force of the episode so ending the conflict on that before taking a break wouldn't be as impactful.

And that's it.  Some transphobia that should've been cut in the first place, a panning shot and a victory leap.  There was also a bunch of hit flashes in the ground combat near the start, but you know the drill by now.  This episode is mostly uncut.
