TV Edits of the Viewtiful Joe Anime: Episode 9

This episode is called "Roamin' Holiday" in English, which is very fitting because the setting obviously takes inspiration from the movie Roman Holiday.  There's princess on the run, it takes place in Rome and the Mouth of Truth is a featured landmark.  I don't think the mouth came to life and went on a rampage in that movie though.  As for the edits, I don't expect much.

When Joe first meets Holly there's a sign for "Pottery Cottage", which is edited out in English.  This is probably because Pottery Cottage is known as the site of a series of murders in 1977.  Why in the hell is there a building with that name in the Japanese version anyway?  It wasn't even in Rome!  It's like the porn shops again.
In every subsequent shot with the sign after that, it's left unedited because the full name isn't shown so it could very well be Xettery Cottage.

Right after that the conversation with Holly, with her dropping hints about escaping from her royal life, is a little shorter by few seconds.
The scene in Jadow HQ is also a few seconds shorter.  It doesn't lose any shots (barring the usual Sprocket zipping up her clothes).  It just cuts down on how much is said, likely for time.  It wasn't because of Sprocket this time.

When Junior meets up with Holly again, he triumphantly poses and introduces himself as Captain Blue Junior, to which Holly recognizes him as Captain Blue's partner and does a little curtsey to him.  In the English version it's a quick exchange: Holly introduces herself like in the Japanese version and Junior just says his name is Junior.
This actually changes the context of the story a bit.  By simply introducing himself as "Junior" in the English version, Holly doesn't immediately know who he is (even after he mentions protecting Captain Blue's favorite town) and some dialogue later is changed for her to recognize him as Captain Blue Junior when he puts his costume on.  In the Japanese version, her knowing who Captain Blue Junior is right then and there might suggest that she respects and helps him for being associated with her hero Captain Blue, rather than simply because she's a naturally kindhearted person.  I like the way the English version does it better.  It also saved some time and I guess those few seconds were all they needed out because the rest of the episode barely changes anything.

After Joe transforms, he finishes off his introductory speech with a pose utilizing the handsign with both hands.  This is cut from the English version.
Super minor, but in the Japanese version after he's trapped in the Arc De Triomphe, the Mouth of Truth says "[You] won't escape!"  In the English version it cuts to commercial after Joe is successful and then comes back to Holly and Junior riding in, skipping that one line.

So in this episode there was one sign change and a few scene shortenings.  Not even any expo dubbing.  I didn't expect much and my expectations are met.
